Im currently writing a song about London (Because i live here) and was inspired by this song to do so.
I want to be a bit different from this song and write about the better sides of london whilst still keeping the same slow style harmony.
Im writing it for my band and am 15 and therefore find it quite hard.
Please can you tell me what would catch you in another song about london and give me any suggestions on what i can write about.
i’m thinking of sleeping in a tent to get some insparation.

  7. This song is the reason because I started playing the guitar… now… 1 1/2 year later.. i can play that song… and many others too… but this song.. it’s beautiful… there is so much truth in it.. unbelieveable…!

  8. what we do here from the comfort of our homes is pay lip service to this song by giving it the thumbs up, ye great lyrics, great tune, then when we are confronted by the sentiment of the song in real life we run a mile and it always someone else’s problem, just ain’t good enough!!

  9. For anyone in the Stamford / Peterborough (England) area Ralph McTell is playing the Corn Exchange Theatre, Stamford on 17th November. Saw it advertised the other day.

This song is good. I like this songs when somebody sings songs about the world for exaples Earthquakes(Haiti) or this song. But sometimes when i think about this song i must cry

  11. Nice song but photos look sad though it has been changing.
When I visited London not those elderly people had seldoom been seen on the street but young people.
Life is beautiful but not everything is in reality.

  12. @katiegittins88 Wondered when this would come up. Firstly, I was 3 years old when he left home! Secondly, he was mentally ill and unable to stay or function in any normal environment. He wouldn’t stay with us and life on the road seemed ‘normal’ to him. It was only when one particular doctor took him under his wing that he was able to get the medication and care necessary. Life is not that simple. You can’t fix all the problems yourself, no matter how much you wish you could.

  13. Dit is het zelfde nummer als vaan guus meeuwis maar dan in het engels.

  14. katiegittins88

@mussie302 if he had mental health problems and was homeless why didnt u take him in?

  15. @mussie302 sorry to hear about your brother. God rest his soul,

  16. good song!

  17. This makes me cry every time – thanks for the video!

  18. On New Year’s Eve 1999, fate had dealt be a big blow and I was living rough underneath a railway station on The Wirral. I was reduced to drinking white cider. Soon after midnight I was feeling very sleepy and was nodding off, when I heard footsteps and the sound of dogs. I thought my time had come. I slumped to the floor. The next thing I remember are two youths picking me up. They said they would return with some food. They did 5 mins later. Two bags of food and drink. I was reduced to tears.

  19. i remember when i was staying in London when i was 7, there was this guy who had something wrong with him and he had a terrible hunched back, he was begging and a policeman came and told him he wasnt allowed to beg on that street and moved him around the corner where he was allowed. He looked so sad and i felt so sorry for him, there’s really no point to this story, i just felt like sharing it :)

  20. thank you for reminding me of what is truly important.

  21. @SH4DYBR4DY It isnt just you. Its been said London is a separate part of the UK and I tend to agree. Working class Londoners (at least the ones Ive met) are friendly enough in their speech, but have no love of Northerners and a lot are opportunistic thieves, the rich in London evil, ignorant sods and its partly down to them that theres so many homeless people there.
500K = one bedroom flat in Mayfair all for the sake of having a W1 in the postcode.
500k = 6 bedroomed house in Yorkshire Dales

  22. I’ve just come back from a 2 week stay in London. London is a wonderful city, but pride and ignorance run through it like a virus; the wealthiest of society walking past those who have nothing. Then they say there’s places where the homeless can go to get help. Such places are hard to find even if you have internet access; I don’t know how they survive and it broke my heart at not been able to help any of them.
“Got any spare change, mate?” No, I replied. : – (

  23. THANK YOU FOR THIS POST, I HAVE LIVED ON THE STREETS , I KNOW WHERE THIS SONG IS COMING FROM. PLEASE DON’T, TURN TOUR BACK , HELP IF YOU CAN.

  24. It’s a damned shame
